We’re glad to welcome Jerrelle Guy to the bookstore for a conversation around her new cookbook, We Fancy, a thoughtful exploration of how everyday cooking can be both practical and meaningful. The book is rooted in the idea that “fancy” is not about complexity or luxury, but about attention—using what you already have to make meals that feel deliberate and satisfying.
In We Fancy, Guy works with familiar pantry staples and accessible tools to reimagine weeknight cooking, offering recipes that are flexible, approachable, and designed for real schedules. Alongside dishes that range from quick risottos to simple desserts, the book invites readers to treat cooking as a grounding ritual—something that can provide structure, comfort, and a sense of ease at the end of the day.
Guy is the author of Black Girl Baking, a James Beard Award finalist, and an award-winning food photographer. A graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design with a master’s degree in gastronomy from Boston University, she lives in Dallas and writes The Dinner Ritual, a newsletter centered on cooking as a restorative daily practice. We’re excited to host her for an evening that brings these ideas into conversation and offers a closer look at the thinking behind the book.
