Voices in the Wild

Event Details

Presented in conjunction with the What is Cinema? podcast, Voices in the Wild is an extension of the cultural dialogue on inclusivity and participation promoted by the podcast in recognition of our ever-shrinking world.

Hosted by Princess McDowell, a writer/poet/journalist and Patrick Patterson-Carroll, co-host of the What is Cinema? podcast/writer/journalist, our goal is to connect marginalized voices to the cultural institutions in Oak Cliff (like The Wild Detectives), and engage the public in dialogue and expressive performance. Writers, artists, journalists, etc. are all encouraged to participate in the monthly series and bring their friends; safe spaces + brilliant minds.

Teresa Megahan: Fiercely driven by the need to move, Megahan wrote, painted, sculpted and performed all the way from the tender years of her genesis, leaving a Google comet trail of online and print publications, IMDB credit, feature readings for community institutions in Dallas and Fort Worth, visual art contributions to local group shows such as El Corazon, Hecho in Dallas, and the Chaos Show at RO2 Art.

Adam Strange: Adam Strange is a traveling philosopher who is a student of western occultism, Native American folklore and eastern mysticism. He has lived in Galveston, Austin, San Antonio and New Orleans, but is a Dallas native and always finds his way back home.

Lee Escobedo: Lee Escobedo is a Dallas-based writer and critic who currently contributes to Berlin Arts Link, Glasstire, The Nasher Magazine, Patron Magazine, and Arts & Culture Magazine. He is the 2016 recipient of two grants from the city of Dallas to start a podcast on cinema (What is Cinema?), connecting the inner-city neighborhoods of Oak Cliff and South Dallas to the cultural institutions through an inclusive discourse on film. He is also co-founder of THRWD Magazine and An LBJ Experience.

Patrick Patterson-Carroll: Is the co-host of the What is Cinema? podcast. He is the author of the 2014 collection of short stories, I Dig Symmetry and Six Other Stories, published through Thought Catalog, where he is a sometime contributor. Most recently, he was a contributing editor for THRWD Magazine.

Princess McDowell: We’re proud to announce Princess McDowell, a writer/poet/journalist has come on board as a reader and co-host for the series.
