Monks of Saturnalia are coming back to infuse our backyard with their masterful take on what contemporary jazz music can be!
Monks of Saturnalia is a jazz ensemble taking influence from post-bop, free jazz, rock, and Mingus-inspired harmony. Led by composer Gregg Prickett (Unconscious Collective, Trio du Sang, Ronald Shannon Jackson Decoding Society, etc…) with a rotating cast of seasoned musicians since the inception of the project in 1998.
“My goal is to stretch and extend the relationships between melody, harmony, rhythm, and concept, making a living vehicle for the group and the listeners to drive and ride to places they haven’t explored before,” Prickett explains about his approach to the compositions. ‘Much like Chaos Theory, slight variations in each performance can have a huge impact regarding where the music takes us. Every performance becomes an opportunity to explore, within the confines of each composition.’…”
Monks will have a special guest and multi-instrumentalist Chris McGuire sitting in for Jeffery Barnes.
