MARINA HERLOP

A Catalonian conservatory trained composer, vocalist, and pianist who channels her environment and classical trappings with a vibrant, polymorphous form on her hypnotizing new album Pripyat. Herlop performs alien vocal acrobatics, drawing inspiration from Carnatic music of Southern India, while planting a diversity of sonic seeds which blossom brilliantly in her sumptuous garden of chimeric compositions. Marina blew the audience away with her ensemble’s Rewire debut this April and will be performing at Primavera Barcelona and LA, CTM, Mutek, Dekmantel and Le Guess Who? amongst other notable upcoming events worldwide in 2022.

The expected pop and club influences are present on Pripyat, but Herlop mostly uses her technological freedom to layer her own voice over and over, revealing a new dimension of orchestral rhythm and counterpoint in her compositions.” Sam McLemore, Bandcamp Daily

An imagined language, forcing her music to rely on syllabic phrasing and harmonies…It’s a striking, eerie, and surprisingly fitting image of posthuman life to pair with Herlop’s polymorphic music. Pripyat gives shape to a future world, one where language isn’t required to establish deep connections to the earth and to one another.” Eric Torres, Pitchfork

There is still hope. Something new can be imagined. Something sweet can come from nothing…At its lightest her voice brings to mind the eerily undulating tones of songs like Kate Bush’s ‘Army Dreamers’ or the wonderfully ‘Galadriel’ by Tetê Espíndola, where the Brazilian singer imitates rainforest birdsong…” Joseph Francis, Resident Advisor

MATTIE

A mirror. She is an oracle of the SOL, guiding your experience to liberation via modalities of introspective visuals, lyrical self-inquiry, melody/harmony, experimental instrumentation, movement, meditation, and performance art.

Beguiling and menacing at once, Jupiter’s Purse announces an artist whose music braces with unreleased tension, keeping you balanced on the edge of volcanic emotion…an unsteady mix of electronic and hip-hop music. Murky synth melodies and washes of string and woodwind samples dot these songs like constellations, with each diffuse element grounded by MATTIE’s commanding, charismatic pull, transmuted and pitch-shifted at will…where even the most off-kilter moment is one of beauty.” Eric Torres, Pitchfork
