14augsunThe Wild Detectives Presents: MERIDIAN BROTHERS6:00 pm - 9:30 pm Event Type :Backyard Concert

Event Details

Since opening The Wild Detectives we have dreamed of partying with the Meridian Brothers in our backyard. We are thrilled to finally announce that Meridian Brothers, one of our absolute favorite bands from South America, will be playing here in just a few weeks. To ensure this will become a backyard bailongo for the books, Elkin Pautt (Dallas based-NY seasoned Colombian producer), and Nick Van House (Dallas’ own Latin dancefloor treasure), will be open the evening with tons of shaking sabor and sabrosura.

TICKETS:     Presale: $25  /  Door: $32

From Bogota, at the very core of the scene that also sprouted Frente Cumbiero, Ondatropica, Los Pirañas, and many more, Colombian guitarist and composer Eblis Alvarez started Meridian Brothers back in 1998 as a vehicle for his own experimental music. Over the years, the group has evolved into a five-piece band focused on re-interpreting all manners of Latin Tropical styles with strong psychedelic and experimental sensibility. The Meridian Brothers’ music uses popular Latin American rhythms, augmented by sampling techniques, elaborate effect processing, and Eblis’ quirky and theatrical vocals, which channel imaginary characters with both pathos and humor.

The group has released records on Soundway Records, Les Disques Bongo Joe, and Staubgold, and has proved very popular in South America and Europe where the band has toured extensively and has started to reach out to an audience more familiar with indie rock and experimental than Latin music. Nowadays along with Eblis, Meridian Brothers is comprised of Maria Valencia (saxophone, clarinet, percussion, and synthesizers), Damian Ponce (Percussion), Cesar Quevedo (bass), and Alejandro Forero (electronics and synthesizers).

Meridian’s new album is a tribute to New York’s 70’s era Salsa Dura. For the project, they have created an avatar, a fictitious group named El Grupo Renacimiento, and written a new repertoire trying to emulate the writing style of those late 60’s and early 70’s groups while retaining the Meridian Brothers idiosyncratic style of arranging and recording. The album will be released on the Ansonia label – a historical Latin label that specialized in Puerto Rican, Dominican and Cuban music from the 1960’s.

Colombian Music Producer, based in Dallas TX via Brooklyn, NY. Since early childhood captivated by music, curiosity made him his own teacher. West African influenced music that incorporates Electronica and analog synthesis makes a strong combination of sounds reflected in his work.

Hailing from Dallas, Nick Van House is a celebrated creative type who has spent years behind the lens and turntables. As a pillar member of the collective BOOM BOOM PUM, Nick has garnered a dedicated following to their weekly dance party, where it has international recognition as a destination for club DJs to perform.
