We’re finally launching a Book Club; it was about time, wasn’t it. And what better way to jump start a Dallas-based book club than focusing on a book with Dallas ties. One Hundred and Twenty-One Days by Michèle Audin was published and translated from its original French by the good folks at Deep Vellum Publishing, a local literary non-profit. Will Evans, Deep Vellum Publishing’s Director, will be our guest and he’ll share with us some insights about the book.
The novel, written in the Oulipo style of storytelling, pieces together the lives of French mathematicians during the World Wars. Weaving in and out of different writing styles from chapter to chapter, from journal entries to newspaper clippings, the book explores how numbers and logic cannot explain away the aftermath of tragedy. As deep, beautiful, and mysterious as a golden spiral, this poignant testament to originality is our first entry in The Wild Detectives Book Club.
Book Club members will enjoy a 10% discount on the title and on every item they’ll ask at the bar at the Book Club meeting. We’ll meet on Monday, October 10th (Columbus Day). At The Wild Detectives. In the meantime, grab your book, start reading and connect with us at Goodreads to start the conversation.
We can’t wait to start reading your opinions about the book!
