Event Details

Join us for a launch event celebrating Someday All the Adults Will Die!, Pat Blashill’s electrifying oral history of Texas punk. Centered on the explosive scene that took root in Austin in the late ’70s and spread through San Antonio, Dallas, and Houston, the book captures a raw and radical musical moment that shaped generations—from the Big Boys and the Dicks to Daniel Johnston and the Butthole Surfers.

Pat Blashill will be in attendance for a conversation about the book, followed by a signing and a storytelling session featuring Dallas punks, fans, and musicians—those who were there and those keeping the spirit alive today. Expect tales from the edge, vintage flyers and zines, and a celebration of one of Texas’s most influential subcultures.

About the author

Pat Blashill was born and raised in Austin, Texas. As a teenager, he began going to punk rock shows while he studied photojournalism at the University of Texas. In 1987, he moved to New York City, where he worked as a writer and photographer for Rolling Stone, The New York Times, Details, Wired, GQ and other publications. These days, he lives in Vienna, Austria with his wife and two daughters. In 2020, Bazillion Points published Texas Is The Reason, the first collection of his photographs and writing.

About the book

Texas has always teemed with music and counterculture. When punk came to the state in 1978, it flourished in San Antonio, Dallas, Houston, and, especially, Austin. Punk and post-punk musicians, including nationally acclaimed bands like the Butthole Surfers, the Big Boys, the Dicks, and Daniel Johnston influenced local culture before slashing into the American musical psyche. (See Kurt Cobain sporting Johnston’s “Hi, How are you?” T-shirt.) Someday All the Adults Will Die! is an oral history of punk in Texas, from its rise in the late 1970s, through its strong anti-racist, feminist, and queer peak, to its dissolution in the late 1980s.
