An impressive double bill of profuse instrument explorers: Wendy Eisenberg on the guitar, Jon Mueller on drums. A high caliber crossroad will happen in our backyard, Wendy coming from New York, Jon is on tour from Wisconsin; the kind of crossroad that took place in the past when in 2019 Peter Brotzmann+Heather Leigh concurred with Joe Baiza+Jason Kahn, or in 2017, when Ingebrigt Haker-Flaten came from Austin with Dave Rempis to share the stage with Isabelle Duthoit and Franz Hautzinger.

Wendy Eisenberg is an improviser and songwriter who uses guitar, pedals, the tenor banjo, the computer, the synthesizer, and the voice. Their work spans genres, from jazz to noise to avant-rock to delicate songs; their performances span venues, from international festivals to intimate basements. Though often working solo as both a songwriter and improviser, with acclaimed releases on Tzadik, VDSQ, Out of your Head, and Garden Portal, they also perform in the rock band Editrix, and in endless other combinations of their heroes and peers including Allison Miller, Carla Kihlstedt, John Zorn, Billy Martin, and Caroline Davis. They are also a writer on music and other things, with published essays on music in Sound American, Arcana, and the Contemporary Music Review.

Jon Mueller’s aim has been to move drums, percussion, and rhythm from its anticipated backbeat to a central musical focus, something more intuitive and natural than usually imagined. Notable solo performances have taken place at the Guggenheim Museum, New Museum, Musée des Beaux-Arts de Montréal, Alverno Presents, SXSW, Big Ears Festival, Hopscotch Fest and Witching Hour Festival.

From 2013 to 2015, Mueller created and directed the multi-disciplinary project Death Blues. The project issued four critically acclaimed recordings. Rolling Stone cited non-fiction as one of the ‘20 Best Avant Albums of 2014’. Ensemble, created with multi-instrumentalist William Ryan Fritch, was featured on NPR’s ‘First Listen’.

Outside of his solo work, Mueller has performed and recorded with Mind Over Mirrors, was a founding member of the bands Volcano Choir, Collections of Colonies of Bees and Pele, and has worked in depth with artists Aaron Turner, Faith Coloccia, Jason Kahn, Asmus Tietchens, Z’EV, Rhys Chatham, Jarboe, James Plotkin, and Duane Pitre. His solo work has been released by American Dreams, Table of the Elements, Type Recordings, Important Records, Taiga Records, SIGE Records and his own imprint, Rhythmplex.
