Welcome back to the Six Foot Love series at The Wild Detectives. A series of live outdoor performances with numbered seats and limited capacity.

The last Six Foot Love concert of the year is embodied in an energetic, dynamic, and masterful trio of saxophone, double-bass, and drums. Garret, Matthew and Stefan will bring fire in the form of intricate contemporary jazz compositions that seamlessly explode into flaming mighty improvisations.

Stefan Gonzalez is a drummer, auxiliary percussionist, and vocalist from Dallas, TX.  Born into a musical family, Stefan was raised around many musicians deeply rooted in the tradition of free jazz, avant garde, and improvised music.  Stefan has played and toured extensively with their family trio Yells at Eels with their brother Aaron Gonzalez on bass, and father Dennis Gonzalez on trumpet.  Other important bands and projects to note are Akkolyte, Unconscious Collective, Imperial Slaughter, Humanization 4tet (Lisbon/Dallas), and The Young Mothers(Norway, Texas, Netherlands, and Mississippi).  Important collaborative musicians to note are Mars Williams, Eugene Chadbourne, Luis Lopes, Rodrigo Amado, Damon Smith, Ingebrigt Haker Flaten, Louis Moholo-Moholo, Famoudou Don Moye, Akira Sakata, Jonathan Horne, Remi Alvarez, Tatsuya Nakatani, Michel Doneda, and the late Alvin Fielder.  Stefan’s approach has a highly raw yet tasteful approach equally rooted in jazz improvisation and hardcore punk intensity.  They have toured all over Europe and Scandinavia, North America, Canada, Mexico, and Colombia and have over 40 albums with various groups and projects within the realm of grindcore, free jazz, punk, industrial, Noise, and experimental music.

Garrett Wingfield is a Miami-based saxophonist and composer who actively avoids boundaries and borders in his artmaking. His compositions “…demonstrate his unique skills as a writer and instigator of group improvisation…” (Free Jazz Blog) and are “…equally informed by disparate influences — as much Ellington as it is Berio, as much Ornette as it is Zappa…” (Nextbop). Wingfield won a 2018 ASCAP Young Jazz Composer Award for his composition “Berne Center,” which is on his ensemble The Octopod’s album, “Monoliths and Sepulchres.” He is currently developing a new improvisational language involving various liquids interacting with saxophones and is composing a set of one-minute compositions for his Octopod ensemble that explores various angles of attention deficit.

Matthew Frerck is a bassist, improviser, and composer. A native of Richardson, Texas, Matthew is a performer actively finding a voice through the creative practices of jazz, free-improvisation, and contemporary classical performance. His energetic approach has led him to collaborate and share the stage with luminaries including Pulitzer Prize-Winning composer/saxophonist Henry Threadgill, Aaron Dilloway (Wolf Eyes), and Ursula Oppens among others.
