Welcome back to the Six Foot Love series at The Wild Detectives. A series of live outdoor performances with numbered seats and limited capacity.
A special three-act concert with a wide scope of virtuosic possibilities. Kory and Conner come together for a set of doom-metal-inspired, meditative double bass, and electronic drones. Louise and Sarah are merging their graceful vocals, multi-instrumental, and electronic skills for the first time. Danny Kamins is coming back from Houston for a solo reeds set on this occasion.
KORY REEDER + CONNER SIMMONS
Kory Reeder is an American composer and performer whose music investigates ideas of objectivity, place, immediacy. Kory’s music has been performed in concerts and festivals across the Americas, Asia, Australia, and Europe and he has frequently collaborated with opera, theater, and dance, as well as noise, and free-improv. His music has been released on Edition Wandelweiser, Petrichor Records, NCTMMRN, Sawyer Editions, Impulsive Habitat, and Another Timbre. Kory is from Nebraska and currently resides in Texas where he is an active performer and is currently finishing a PhD. at the University of North Texas. For more, please visit www.koryreeder.com
Conner Simmons is a composer, and double bassist from San Antonio, Texas. Their musical experience ranges from experimental performance art, composition for film, orchestral performances alongside the San Antonio Symphony, and a collaborative installation exhibited in Bologna, Italy. Conner is interested in the capacity of music to create a sense of physical and metaphorical place, and occasionally uses visual media to augment the auditory spaces they create. Their often collaborative and interdisciplinary approach to music and art illuminates the divide and overlap between the personal, ephemeral, and universal.
LOUISE FIRSTENSKY + SARAH JAY
Among other things, composer, sound sculptor, and systems artist Louise Fristensky [ ˌlʉˈiːz ˌfɹ̞ ɪstʰˈɜˑnscʰi̞ ] creates works focused along the micro-refractions of reality’s pointillistic network of personally-aggregated and mutually agreed-upon mythologies; the places where the air tastes of electricity.
Sarah Jay is a Denton, TX-based experimental and improvisational musician, creating soundscapes with electronics and vocal processing.
DANNY KAMINS
An improvising saxophonist based out of Houston, TX. His current musical endeavors include playing in the groups Relative Dissonance, CARL, El Mantis, and Etched in the Eye as well as directing the jazz program at Rice University. Musicians he has performed/recorded with include Tatsuya Nakatani, Alvin Fielder, Ra Kalam Bob Moses, Thomas Helton, Adam Goodwin, Vinny Golia, Garrett Wingfield, Jeb Bishop, Sandy Ewen, Paulina Owczarek, Damon Smith, Luke Stewart.
