Another double bill of exquisite experimental artists crossing paths to deliver adventurous solo sets in our backyard!

Jason Kahn was born in New York, and for many years he has been living in Zürich. His career started almost 40 years ago in such SST bands as The Leaving Trains and Universal Congress Of (maybe you saw him in our backyard in 2018 playing duo with Joe Baiza) and it spans a wide scope of diverse experimental practices and collaborations all around the world. Alan Jones was born in Dallas, and now calls Tracyton, WA, his home. Alan’s work encompasses many aspects of sound in itself, in later days he developed a special focus on the lap steel guitar. It’s very possible you have a recording at home which was mastered by him.

His work with electronics involves chaotic feedback systems and placing his body in the circuit. Grabbing open leads with the hands makes and breaks circuits, causing the synthesizer to overload or momentarily collapse. Various contact microphones, electromagnetic inductors, and the synthesizer’s own output via a mixing board are used to modulate the parameters of the synthesizer. Live radio captures during the concert and recordings made beforehand in the performance space and its environs provide further working material for each concert. In the end, these performances are essentially site-specific works.

Kahn’s installations and interventions have been shown in museums, galleries, art spaces, and public sites internationally. These works focus on the idea of space: the conceptual and physical juncture points, its production and dissolution, and our relation to it as a political, social, and environmental medium. He has performed and exhibited work in the United States, Europe, Argentina, Australia, Egypt, Brazil, Canada, Chile, China, Colombia, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Iraq, Israel, Japan, Korea, Lebanon, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Peru, Russia, Turkey, Singapore, South Africa, and Taiwan.

A Washington-based musician, composer, and sound designer. His live sets are fully improvised, emphasizing the use of guitar, lap steel, and pedal steel. Alan has performed and recorded with his groups Telescoping (Seattle) MANKINDA (San Diego), what (Seattle), and Steerage (New Jersey/D.C.), and with Derek Rogers, Anla Courtis, Cristián Alvear, Judith Hamann, Greg Kelley, Meridian, Sandy Ewen, Rob Millis, Christian Weber, Jacob Wick, Reed Evan Rosenberg, Gabi Losoncy, Ethan Tripp, Mathieu Ruhlmann, Joda Clément, Leah Bowden, Bruno Duplant, among others. He runs the Laminal mastering studio and curates the Marginal Frequency performance series and record label of the same name.
