Andrew Weathers (b.1988) is a composer and improviser originally from Chapel Hill, NC, and currently based in Littlefield, TX. His work engages with notions of place, tradition, repetition, and spirit. Weathers studied composition at UNC-Greensboro and electronic music at Mills College in Oakland, CA.

A consistent presence in the underground music scene over the past decade, Weathers’ work covers a wide spectrum from solo acoustic guitar to electronic noise. He also performs and records regularly with Tethers, Real Life Rock & Roll Band, Tender Crust, Wind Tide, Satin Spar, Llano Estacado Monad Band, and in long-running collaborations with Seth Chrisman and tanner menard, among others. In addition to his busy performing schedule, Weathers operates the Full Spectrum and Other Minds record labels, curates the Longitudes music series at CO-OPt Research + Projects in Lubbock, TX, and works as a freelance mixing and mastering engineer.

“…Weathers’s frequent jaunts across the West Texas desert kicked neurons into gear within his brain, often igniting the spark of inspiration on those lonely highway drives enough that he’d have to quick run to an instrument whenever he’d get home to get everything out of his head that cropped up along the way…There’s road-movie aspects to it, kosmische, 1970s fusion, drifting folk, and even Autotune!”   Ryan, Cassette Gods

Monte Espina, electroacoustic free improvisation duo, consists of Ernesto Montiel and Miguel Espinel, both Venezuelan-born and North Texas-based.  The pair perform in tandem, exploring the possibilities of sinuous sonic environments amid amplified sounds and signal processing.

Due to the improvisational nature of their music, Monte Espina has collaborated with a wide range of musicians from the Dallas-Denton axis and abroad. In 2019, Marginal Frequency released their first ‘official’ cd, Y culebra; in February 2021, Austin label Elevator Bath published Pa. A collaboration with Liz Tonne and Louise Fristensky, Pueblo Glórtha, will come out on Round Bale Recordings later in 2021.

“…the bulk of Monte Espina’s sound comes from the amplification of otherwise negligible noises and the aggrandizement of certain inherent frequencies that may or may not be caught by the ear in normal circumstances…The outcome is organically multiplex, at the same time suggesting the obscurity of an uncertain future and a feeling of comfortable control on our emotions…the lingering sensation is that of having witnessed from afar a sequence of earthly tremors amidst unusual meteorological mutations.” Massimo Ricci, Toneshift
