Poppy Xander, named Best Keyboardist by Dallas Observer, is the newest member of Polyphonic Spree, plays synth bass and keys for the award-winning Primadonna, Madonna Tribute, and won Best Live Act for her production, sci-fi space band, Helium Queens. Xander is a songwriter, improviser, and pianist at heart, whose solo work for voice and virtuosic piano explores moody classical themes and theatrical styles.

“If David Bowie had Bach’s baby it would be Poppy Xander because talent and charisma collide at Poppy’s Keyboard,” a quote from Artstillery, an Oak Cliff based Art Cultivation for whom Xander composes and performs with on a monthly basis.

In 2014, Xander released the solo album, Snake in the Grass, followed by Little Ghosts EP, which was backed by her band, The Chamber Rock Ensemble. Xander plans to release a new album for solo piano and voice through the crowd funding platform Patreon where subscribers will be able to come along for the journey, joining in discussions of piano technique, classical theory, poetry, and composition.

Xander received a degree in Music Education in 2009 from University of North Texas and believes that education is fundamental to continue developing and supporting the craft of music.

Extremely active in the DFW music scene, Xander has performed with many acts past and present including Levi Cobb and The Big Smoke, Confetti Eddie’s Naughty Magic Show, avant-garde pop punk band Starfruit, Leah Lane, Charley Crockett, as well as tributes for The Smiths, Garth Brooks, George Strait, and Madonna, attributing the diversity in demand to developing piano her unique technique and song writing approach.
