Join host Hannah Smith for an afternoon of Poetry on the Patio. The Sunday reading will feature Raena Shirali, Katie Condon, Megan Peak, and Dallas Poet Laureate, Mag Gabbert.

About the poets:

Raena Shirali is the author of two collections of poetry. Her first book, GILT, was released by YesYes Books in 2017 and won the 2018 Milt Kessler Poetry Book Award. Published by Black Lawrence Press in October 2022, her second book, summonings, won the 2021 Hudson Prize and was shortlisted for the 2022 Julie Suk Award. Winner of a Pushcart Prize & a former Philip Roth Resident at Bucknell University, Shirali is also the recipient of prizes and honors from VIDA, Gulf Coast, Boston Review, & Cosmonauts Avenue. Her work has appeared in American Poetry Review, Academy of American Poets’ Poem-A Day, The Nation, The Rumpus, & elsewhere. Formerly Co-Editor-in-Chief of Muzzle Magazine, Shirali now serves as Faculty Advisor for Folio—a literary magazine dedicated to publishing works by undergraduate students at the national level. She holds an MFA in Poetry from The Ohio State University and is an Associate Professor of English at Holy Family University.

 Katie Condon is the author of Praying Naked. Her work has been supported by MacDowell, and the Sewanee and Bread Loaf Writer’s conferences. Katie’s recent poems have appeared in the New Yorker, American Poetry Review, and the Academy of American Poets’ anthology 100 Poems That Matter.

Megan Peak received her M.F.A. in Poetry from The Ohio State University, where she was former Poetry Editor at The Journal.  Her first book of poetry, Girldom, won the 2018 Perugia Press Prize from Perugia Press and 2019 The John A. Robertson Award for Best First Book of Poetry from the Texas Institute of Letters. Her work has been published in Gulf Coast, Ploughshares, Blackbird, Verse Daily, and more. She lives in Fort Worth, TX with her family.

Mag Gabbert is the author of SEX DEPRESSION ANIMALS, which won the Charles B. Wheeler Prize and the Writer’s League of Texas Book Award in Poetry; the chapbook The Breakup, which won the Baltic Writing Residencies Chapbook Award; and the chapbook Minml Poems. Her work can also be found in The American Poetry Review, The Paris Review Daily, Copper Nickel, Guernica, Poetry Daily, and in many other journals and magazines. Mag is the recipient of a Pushcart Prize, a Discovery Award from 92NY’s Unterberg Poetry Center, and fellowships from the Kenyon Review Writers Workshop, Idyllwild Arts, and Poetry at Round Top. She has an MFA from UC Riverside and a PhD from Texas Tech, and she currently teaches at Southern Methodist University and serves as the Poet Laureate of Dallas, Texas.
