Straight from the Whip-In, an Indian restaurant and performance space in Austin, comes One Page Salon.
The salon is the brainchild of novelist, screenwriter, and stand-up comedian Owen Egerton, who over the years had detected two problems with most literary readings:
1) They were too long
2) They didn’t involve enough eating, drinking, and talking.
And so he created the One Page format, where a roster of local writers read a single page from a work and progress and answer three questions posed by the host. Break for eating, drinking, and talking. Then next author, please.
In its Austin incarnation, the One Page Salon has been dubbed the best literary evening in town by the American Statesman and plays to standing room only audiences.
Thanks to the Writers’ League of Texas, Egerton is taking his show on the road as part of the WordSpace Dallas Lit hop. The current author roster includes Sanderia Faye, Sarah Hepola, and Jeramey Kraatz. (Stay tuned for further developments).
