Officer Buckle and Gloria

Officer Buckle and Gloria
by Peggy Rathmann
G.P. Putnam’s Sons Books for Young Readers (1995)

Bring your little ones for morning story time at The Wild Detectives. Jill Holston will read Peggy Rathmann’s Officer Buckle an Gloria, in which A rather boring police officer named Officer Buckle is assigned to take a police dog named Gloria to his safety speech at the local school.

Jill Holston has taught in public and private elementary schools in the Dallas area for the past 25 years. She’s taught kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, and 4th grade. She’s currently a dyslexia teacher for Richardson ISD. One of her greatest joys in teaching is introducing students to the love of reading. She says that one of the biggest complements she’s ever received as a reading teacher was written in one of her 4th grade student’s composition: “She is a magnificent reader, when she reads to us I get lost in her words.”

It’ll be a 25 minute read followed by a short discussion with the kids–that’s going to be interesting, we can’t wait to see what they come up with.

The book is geared for ages 4-7, but all ages are welcome.

On Saturday morning bring your kids and infuse them with a love for reading.
