Jusino - Pata Negra Film Sessions

Event Details

After a couple of years -in which we’ve been busy trying to make The Wild Detectives your favorite cultural hang out spot- Pata Negra Film Sessions are back. This time we’re partnering with Meadows Museum at SMU and Pepitas de Calabaza publishing (La Rioja, Spain), to bring you Justino, un asesino de la tercera edad (1994, 96 min. English subtitles), a Spanish black comedy –or “esperpento”– that tells the story of a retired bullfighter (“puntillero”, not “torero” to be more precise) turned assassin.

Joining us to introduce the film and conduct a post-screening Q&A will be Santiago Aguilar, who co-wrote and co-directed the film as part of the creative team “La Cuadrilla,” and Julián Lacalle, founder of Pepitas de Calabaza, an awarded Spanish publishing company.

5.30p / An introduction to Esperpento
w/ Santiago Aguilar (Director) and Julián Lacalle (Publisher)

5.50p / Screening of Justino

7.30p / Q&A with the Director

A light reception will follow the film in the Gene and Jerry Jones Great Hall. Books will be available for purchase.

This event is free and open to the public, seating available on a first-come first-served basis.

Pata Negra is an international film series launched in 2012 by The Wild Detectives’ owners Javier García del Moral and Paco Vique, presenting the work of Spanish filmmakers, originally at The Texas Theatre.

Parking is free in the Meadows Museum garage. Check Meadows website for parking information.
