Emmanuel Pratt

Event Details

Emmanuel Pratt will discuss transformative models of sustainable development through the intersections of food security and design with Chad Houser (Café Momentum) and Daron Babcock (Bonton Farms).

Emmanuel Pratt is the Executive Director of the Sweetwater Foundation in Chicago. His interdisciplinary approach to regenerative place-making on the South Side of Chicago mixes art, architecture, and community and economic development.

Chad Houser runs Café Momentum, a Dallas-based restaurant and culinary training facility, transforms young people’s lives by providing a positive environment in which at-risk youth who have spent time in juvenile facilities receive intensive culinary, job and life-skill training, as well as continued mentorship and support, enabling them to achieve their full potential.

Daron Babcock left a successful corporate career running several businesses in the supply chain/logistics field along with his home in Frisco, Texas to serve the inner-city residents of Bonton. Although Bonton is historically known for it’s high crime, poverty and violence, he believes another world is possible. Daron’s broad professional experience coupled with his heart for serving inner-city communities brings a fresh and innovative perspective to solving problems there. He founded Bonton Farms in 2014 where he currently serves as Executive Director. Daron and his wife Theda live in Bonton.

Gentrified Dallas: A month-long investigation into the story the city is telling is curated by Mark Lamster, architecture critic at the Dallas Morning News, in collaboration with University of Texas at Arlington’s College of Architecture, Planning and Public Affairs.
