Craft Days: Celebrating Día de Muertos
Join us for a special two-day celebration of Día de Muertos filled with hands-on creativity and cultural learning at NJZ. Whether you’re bringing the kids or coming with friends, these Craft Days are designed to help you and your family honor loved ones through beautiful traditions.
Sunday, October 20 (2:00-4:00 PM)
Mini Ofrendas with Kids
We’re welcoming 15-20 families for an afternoon of creativity where kids will learn about Día de Muertos and build their own mini ofrendas. Arrive at noon for set-up, and at 2:00 PM, we’ll begin with a warm welcome, seating everyone and distributing materials. The event kicks off with a short presentation explaining the significance of Día de Muertos, followed by hands-on crafting! Families will rotate through four fun stations—creating shoebox ofrendas, making papel picado, crafting flowers, and a coloring station for relaxation. You’ll have the option to contribute your creations to our Community Ofrenda or take them home to build your own.
Monday, October 21 (7:00-10:00 PM)
Adult Craft Night
This evening, adults are invited to join the same Día de Muertos-themed crafting experience! Come enjoy a relaxed, creative night building ofrendas, making papel picado, and crafting flowers while learning more about the meaning behind this beloved tradition. It’s a great way to spend a Monday night connecting with culture, art, and community.
