In association with Arts & Letters Live, we present a performative reading of the epic poem, Brand New Ancients, by Kate Tempest. A spoken word poet, hip-hop artist and novelist, Tempest will be in town Friday, May 13 at the Dallas Museum of Art to promote her book, The Bricks that Built These Houses. Her poem, Brand New Ancients, is an impossible to ignore work that cuts into the heart of contemporary society and watches it bleed. It will be performed by local actress, Katherine Bourne — a company member at Undermain Theatre and co-founder of Shakespeare in the Bar.
Kate Tempest is an English poet, spoken word artist and playwright. In 2013 she won the Ted Hughes Award for her work Brand New Ancients. In 2015-16, she was a visiting fellow in the Department of English, University College, London.
Katherine Bourne is an actor and producer in the DFW area. Her Undermain credits include Long Day’s Journey Into Night, The Night Alive, The Fairytale Lives of Russian Girls, Abraham Zobell’s Home Movie: Final Reel…, and The Birthday Party. Locally, Katherine has worked with WaterTower Theatre, Stage West, Dallas Actor’s Lab, Funimation and Dallas Theater Center, among others. She also is a founder and producer of Shakespeare in the Bar, which since its founding last year has been the recipient of multiple awards throughout Dallas.
