Event Details

Join us for an introspective evening with authors Jacob Rubin and Greg Brownderville. Rubin, an assistant professor at Southern Methodist University, introduces his debut poetry collection, “Piggy Bank.” Delving into themes of longing and connection, this event promises a serene exploration of Rubin’s work, offering a glimpse into the profound world of “Piggy Bank.” Alongside him, Greg Brownderville, an accomplished editor and poet, will also share his literary insights, making this an enriching experience for all literature enthusiasts

In Piggy Bank, his debut collection of poetry, Jacob Rubin casts a private eye on a rich variety of subjects, among them the film Double Indemnity, the figure of Scrooge McDuck, and the artwork of Vija Celmins. Rubin’s plainspoken and narrative verse, full of odd and funny touches, conjures moods of loneliness, haunted recollection, and whimsy in a voice that is direct and in lines marked by images that linger. Even when addressed to those who can’t hear them, these poems are searing testaments to the longing for connection.

The author of the novel The Poser, Jacob Rubin is an assistant professor of creative writing at Southern Methodist University. His work has appeared in Best New American Voices, Slate, New York, and The New Yorker online, among other places. Piggy Bank is his first book of poetry.

Greg Brownderville is the author of three books of poetry, the editor-in-chief of Southwest Review, the creator of an online narrative series called Fire Bones, and a singer and songwriter for indie rock duo Beekeeper Spaceman. Brownderville lives in Dallas and serves as Professor of English at SMU.
