Event Details

Composers, improvisers, and multi-instrumentalists Clara Byom and Rob Magill are on tour together, Clara from Albuquerque, Rob from Ojai (California). From their vast scope of musical experiences and interests we can only promise this would be an incredibly rich concert. Spirit Battery is a North Texas duo of Reivin Alexandria on vocals and electronics, and Conner Simmons on double bass and electronics; their work inhabits the magic dimension of performance arts. On this occasion, Spirit Battery will become a trio with the presence of one of our favorite Dallas musicians, Brianne Sargent.

Clara is a versatile multi-instrumentalist, electronic musician, musicologist, arts administrator, and tunesmith who has been described as having “radiant energy” and “immense talent.” Clara has premiered over 40 new classical works as soloist, collaborator, or with the New Mexico Contemporary Ensemble, which she co-founded in 2016. In 2020, Clara produced three solo albums of electronic/electroacoustic music and a collaborative album with lo-fi hip hop/experimental artist Dan Dan. Clara frequently plays for contra, English Country, and International Folk Dance with The Parson Sisters and performs with the indie folk rock band Dust City Opera. Clara serves as Development Director for the Klezmer Institute.

Rob is from Ojai, CA. Label owner of Weird Cry Records, and has performed with such musicians/bands as Marshall Trammell, Tatsuya Nakatani, Eugene Chadbourne, Patrick Shiroishi, Don Preston, Dave Rempis, Chris Corsano, Lisa Cameron, Jessica Ackerley, Fred Lonberg-Holm, Tara Jane O’Neil, Fell to Low, Sun Araw. Current saxophonist of Bastard Collective and organizes the Weird Cry Records Music Concert Series in Ojai, California.

Spirit Battery blends dimensions, casting verbal spells and transmitting sonic enigmas.

Reivin Alexandria is a multimedia artist and psychic ritual performer.  She shapes alternate realities with her voice and sound art.

Conner Simons is a double bassist, composer, and improviser living in Dallas, TX. His interests and practice lie between the personal, ephemeral, and universal. Conner unfolds the sonic capacities of the double bass through drones, live processing, and reserved, lamenting melodies.

Brianne Sargent (cellist, bass player, synths/keys, vocals) is the co-leader of Skinny Cooks and plays with Polyphonic Spree, Alejandro Escovedo, Mattie Michelle and many others. She is also a composer, arranger and producer. From 2014-2018 she was a cellist in the McKinney Philharmonic. She appeared on PBS for the Austin City Music Hall Of Fame induction in 2022—while sharing the stage with Sheila E—playing cello for Alejandro Escovedo.
