We’re turning 4. It’s time to celebrate. Join our party. As every other year before, we’ll be throwing a party to celebrate The Wild Detectives’ Anniversary. It’ll be a multi-genre, poly-rhythmic, pan-Dallasian one day-festival in which we’ll be saying ‘thank you everyone’ quite loudly for all of the support we’ve gotten over these past 4 years. Thank you so very much Dallas, we love you!
And now the who’s who of Wild Beats, some of the best music talent in Dallas + direct from Madrid, our good friend Tempranillo, a classic already of our anniversary parties.
Multilingual Folk & Soul
Ley Line is the musical merging of two duos. Austinites Kate Robberson and Emilie Basez met twin sisters Madeleine and Lydia Froncek at the Telluride Bluegrass Festival in 2013. Since reuniting in Austin, Texas in 2015, Ley Line has been weaving together their individual journeys into a collective vision. Through intimate live performances and multilingual lyrics, Ley Line’s music inspires connection across the peaks and valleys of the human experience.

“Berklee alumnus Nigel Newton and Dallas native Brianne Sargent first met in 2011 during an impromptu show, resulting in three original songs on the spot. They are now known as Skinny Cooks. With an impressive horn section backing them up and a penchant for mixing jazz, 20th-century classical, funk and psychedelic rock, the result is a sound that defies genre norms.” –Diamond Victoria, Dallas Observer.

Galactic Hip Hop Soul
“Mecca Tauheedah is a woman of many talents. When she’s not writing or performing her own music, the 23-year-old Dallas artist can probably be found designing her own merch. (…) Above all else, Mecca is about the stage — the place where she goes by M3cca, and the place she feels at home. (…) Her unique style mixes and mashes hip-hop, soul and R&B to create what she calls “galactic hip-hop soul,” a style that is constantly in flux.” –Tyler Hicks, Guide Live.

Adam & The Figurines
Psych Rock & Roll
Adam & The Figurines is a Dallas 5-piece rock band featuring the latest songs of Adam Amparan, journeyman songwriter from El Paso via Austin TX. Adam’s career has swung wide from his early post-hardcore days in At The Drive In, to the psyche-soul of Super Secret’s Nervous Exits, and on to the melodic country-stained 60’s garage-psyche of his most current work.

Black Taffy (Donovan Jones) is a Dallas based composer and performer whose focus lies in blending ambient music with bass heavy beats. Sometimes performing with a vibraphone and cassette decks, he frequently employs the use of cassette tape loops and other antiquated mediums to create pillowy worlds full of wow and flutter. He recently live scored a modern dance performance with Dallas based Danielle Georgiou Dance Group (DGDG) and is currently collaborating and performing with many other talented local artists such as Lily Taylor, Sudie and Francine Thirteen. Donovan also spent the past 8 years composing and performing with the instrumental band This Will Destroy You.

Unfortunately, Sam Lao had to cancel her performance due to personal circumstances.
Sam Lao is a rapper/singer in Dallas, Tx. Although an artist from birth – mainly drawing, painting and graphic design, she only recently began creating music. Despite being a rookie in the game, Sam Lao has already begun to cause a stir in the city of Dallas. Her debut EP, West Pantego, received rave reviews from both Dallas and national media only to be outdone by her most recent project SPCTRM. Released in 2016 to much anticipation and acclaim she coordinated a sold out release show celebrating the project even going as far as building her own stage setup for the show further proving that Sam is a force to be reckoned with on all levels.

Ronnie Heart is the moniker of stylish latin- american r&b/funk singer songwriter and guitarist Ronnie Gierhart. Heart’s love affair with music and dance started early on through his El Salvadorian/Colombian parents and breakdancing at youth centers and dance companies in his south Houston neighborhood. Upon moving to north Texas in 2002, Heart played guitar for a number of north Texas bands, most notably Neon Indian and VEGA. Heart left Neon Indian in 2011 to pursue a solo career. Inspired by artists such as Michael Jackson, Prince, and Stevie Wonder, Heart makes music that brings an emphatically positive dance party. Ronnie Heart released his debut ep ‘you(r) mine’ in April 2016 on New Media Recordings to critical acclaim. It incorporates r&b, funk, and electronic styles. His positive and high energy shows are always a joyous, vibrant experience. Album of the year 2016: Fort Worth Weekly.
