Each Sunday at 11, we
Each Sunday at 11, we at The Wild Detectives welcome your kids to another edition of our Kids In The Cliff storytime. Every weekend, we look at books we think are unique or special, beautiful or moving or distinctly witty. Selections might be seasonal, historic, united by theme or author or illustrator, and we search from across the world to hometown talents, picking from classics and vintage gems up to brand new releases. The books you’ll enjoy may be right here in our children’s section or long out of print, but it’ll always be chosen with love, delight and a sense of adventure.
All ages are welcome (we want babies, older kids and the adults to have a great time too!), and emphasis is on picture books especially suited for the young ones. The readings (2 – 4 stories) usually last around 30 minutes or so plus discussions or other activities to keep it fun. The weekly series is organized by Lanie DeLay and features occasional storytime guests. Recent visitors have included an actor, architect, author, and a cheese monger, and subjects have ranged from contemporary artists and classical conductors to kooky holidays, kid-friendly current events and dear dads. We can’t wait to see what’s in store!
Lanie DeLay has worked at Dallas Contemporary, the Dallas Public Library, Hamon Arts Library at SMU, at area preschools and the School For The Blind in Austin. She has written for Glasstire and Art&Seek, and she tutors children in early reading skills at Dealey Montessori. When she isn’t looking at art or reading with kids, she’s reading about art or looking for a new read.
On Sunday mornings, come early for a good spot, and bring your kids to infuse them with a love of reading!
